Eddie Tamez, 21, of Galveston, passed away Friday, April 25, 2007, in Fallujah, Iraq, while serving with Delta Company, 3rd Combat Support Battalion, 5-7 Calvary from Fort Stewart, Georgia.
Eddie was born February 18, 1986, in Galveston, Texas. He was a 2004 graduate of BallHigh School, where he was a member of the ROTC program (Honor Graduate) and Hispanic Dance. After graduation, Eddie joined the US Army. He graduated from Army Basic Training with Honors and went to his Advance Individual Training to become a Chemical Specialist as his Military Occupational Specialty. His first duty assignment was to Germany. He and his wife Keyris enjoyed traveling across Europe and took advantage of this opportunity. Afterwards, he returned to the United States and was reassigned to Delta Company where he would later deploy to Iraq in the early part of 2007. Recently, he reenlisted for four more years to continue to serve with the Army.
During his time in the military, SPC Tamez’s earned the Expert Marksmanship Badge and Deutsch Expert Marksmanship Badge and accumulated numerous awards to include the Global War on Terrorism – Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal and the Overseas Service Ribbon.
Posthumously, SPC Eddie Tamez will be awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, and the Combat Action Badge for service while deployed to the Theater of Iraq.
Eddie enjoyed playing pool and poker, performing magic tricks, playing the drums, and dancing. He also loved to travel and was able to explore Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and Italy. He was also able to “drive fast,” (one of his favorite activities), on the Autobahn throughout his assignment in Germany.
