Steve and I went all the way through school together. I will never forget at Warren Elementary School at lunch time Steve would never buy a typical school lunch but would have four ice cream sandwiches. So now after all these years I think of Steve everytime I have one. Steve was a great guy and went to soon in Nam as a lot of others.
Steve was a good friend. He was the only person to show up to my 15th birthday party. I found out later that a so called friend sabotaged the party. I was broken hearted to say the least and it flavored my life for a long time. But I will always remember that he came. I know you are enjoying heaven Steve.

When I think of Steve...I remember a very energetic......happy go lucky...sharp witted guy...quick with a joke & always with a smile on his face...in gym class he was always climbing up walls, ropes or anything he could grip...he was very agile...in our senior year during one of our last victory dances in 1969...he scaled the side of the building and climbed on the top of the gym roof...he did a back flip off the very top of the gym (where the victory dance was being held) ... landed on the ground...jumped to his feet...shook it off and just walked away like nothing happened.
Steve left the bounds of this world while serving our country...he made the ultimate sacrifice for us...The motto of the Army's 108th Artillary Group in which he served was "Deeds Above Words"...
I can imagine he paused at edge of the Pearly Gates...looked back and smiled..and then did a back flip into Eternity....and then walked away like nothing happened.
Ricky, I believe you nailed his personiality on the head. I didn't know much about him except where he lived & he and my brother painted the water tower together. He was a friend of my older brother. (Don Tieperman) Don had a simiular personality. Birds of a feather. Don passed away early in life as well. So sad to lose such fun loving personialities to soon in live. How I wish they were still here and could make us laugh like we used to. Earth would be a much brighter place to be. Thank you for your post, it brought back good memories.
The one thing I remember about Steve is his love of dancing and his joy for life. He was always my choice of dance partner at the Victory Dances. I remember him with great fondness. ❤️
