Sharon Kay Baty Brailsford April 26, 1943 – June 29, 2026 Sharon Kay Baty Brailsford, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026, at the age of 83, surrounded by the love of her family. Sharon was born on April 26, 1943, in Brigham City, Utah, to James Reese “Spin” Baty and Marjorie Wilson Baty. She spent her childhood in Brigham City, Craig, Colorado, and Garland before her family settled in Tremonton when she was thirteen years old. Although the move was difficult at first, Tremonton soon became home, and she graduated from Bear River High School in 1961, where she made lifelong friends and treasured memories. Sharon began working at a young age and developed the strong work ethic that would define her life. She started her career at Thiokol Chemical Corporation in 1961, where she worked for nearly a decade and formed many lasting friendships. Sharon married Lynn Brailsford in November 1963. Together they welcomed two children, Kristin and Scott, and shared 31 years of marriage. In 1970, Sharon left Thiokol to embrace what she often called “the most important thing in my life” becoming a mother. She devoted herself to raising her children, creating a home filled with love, laughter, warm meals, and unwavering support. Family was always at the center of her life. As her children grew, Sharon returned to the workforce with the Brigham City Chamber of Commerce before beginning a remarkable 20-year career serving Brigham City. She first worked in the Recreation Department and later became administrative secretary in the Mayor’s Office, serving under Mayors Clark Davis, David Kano, Lou Ann Christensen, Dennis Fife and Tyler Vincent. She considered her years with Brigham City a labor of love and was deeply proud of helping make the community a better place. Sharon found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved tending her flower gardens, hosting family dinners and backyard cookouts, camping with her family, playing golf, bridge, pinochle, and cheering on the Utah Jazz. Competitive by nature, she was proud of her hole-in-one and loved a friendly game, whether on the golf course or around the card table. More than any title she held, Sharon cherished being known as “Bonga.” Becoming a grandmother and later a great-grandmother brought her immeasurable happiness. She delighted in every game, conversation, milestone, and hug, and her grandchildren always knew how deeply they were loved. She was preceded in death by her parents. Sharon is survived by her daughter, Kristin (Jay) Buttars; her son, Scott Brailsford; her grandchildren, Mandi (McQuade) Allen, Breanne Buttars, Kaden (Val) Buttars, and Mayson Brailsford; her great-grandchildren, Hudson Allen, Scottie Allen, and Mia Buttars; her brother, Jim (Lynne) Baty; her sister, Colleen (Lynn) Rose; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Our family extends sincere thanks to the wonderful staff and caregivers at the Lighthouse at Maple Springs and Jessica and Preslee at Renew Hospice, Dr. John Markeson and staff at Brigham Internal Medicine. Your compassion, gentleness, and exceptional care provided our mom with comfort and dignity, and your support meant more to our family than words can express.
