GASTONIA - James "Slug" Lee Watson, age 70 of Gastonia, died Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. He was born in Gastonia and was the son of the late Lloyd Jack and Margaret Quick Watson. 

Mr. Watson was a graduate of Gastonia High School and attended Gaston College and the University of South Carolina. He was elected to the Gastonia City Council in 2003 and began his second term of office after being re-elected in 2005 and 2007. Mr. Watson is President and Owner of Watco, Inc of Gastonia. He is a member of Marantha Baptist Church where he served as Treasurer, Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent of Sunday School and is a Deacon and Chairman of the Deacon Board. 

Mr. Watson is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carolyn Fore Watson, Granddaughter: Anna Leigh Watson of Travelers Rest, S. C., Step Granddaughter: Martha Paige Greene of Travelers Rest, S. C., Sisters: Midge Butler and husband Terry and Jerri Graham of Gastonia; Daughter-in-law: Kelly W. Greene and husband Brian of Travelers Rest, S. C. 
The family will receive friends from 11:00 A. M. to 1:00 P. M. Saturday at Maranatha Baptist Church, 104 Downey Lake Road, Dallas, N. C. 

Funeral Service: 1:00 P. M. Saturday, Maranatha Baptist Church, Dallas, Rev. Chris Doster officiating. 

Interment will be at Westview Gardens, Bessemer City 

Pallbearers: Lynn Barrett, Tony Fore, Bill Fore, Clyde Fore, Jr., Raymond McMahan, Bob Costner, Chuck Ramsey 

Honorary Pallbearers will be the Mayor of Gastonia and Members of the City Council, Members of the Gastonia Fire Department and Gastonia Police Department 

Mr. Watson was preceded in death by his parents, son: Jeffrey Lee Watson, brother: Melvin Watson, sister: Joyce Wilson 

The family requests that memorials be made to Maranatha Baptist Church Building Fund, 104 Downey Lake Road, Dallas, N. C. 28034
