Dan Leary Alexander, 70, of Gastonia, passed away April 10, 2011 at The Robin Johnson House, Dallas.
He was born October 18, 1940 in Gaston County, son of the late Daniel York Alexander and Lola Upton Alexander. Dan was a wonderful husband, a great Dad, a terrific "Pop", a loving brother and will be remembered as a true friend to all those who knew him. He was a faithful member of Chapel Grove Baptist Church, Gastonia, for almost 40 years. At the church, he served as a deacon, a member of The Hill Climbers Sunday School Class, served on various committees, member of the Brotherhood, a vital part of the Bus Ministry and was selected Chapel Grove's "Man Of The Year" in 1985. Dan worked for Industrial and Textile Supply Company for over 40 years and for Ferguson Enterprises for 8 years. After retirement, he worked part-time for Greene Funeral Service, Gastonia. A funeral service will be held 3:00 pm on Friday at Chapel Grove Baptist Church, Gastonia, officiated by Rev. Roger Overton. Dan will lie in state for one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 9:00 pm on Thursday at the church and other times at the home. Interment is private. He is survived by: his wife of 48 years, Nancy P. Alexander; sons and daughters in-law, Richard York and Suellen Alexander, David Scott and Kathy Alexander, Steve Douglas and Lynn Alexander, Craig Leary and Katy Alexander; sister, Juanita Alexander; grandchildren, Lea, Blake, Amanda, William, Jamie and Autumn.
