Robert Gallant “Bob” Dickson, 69, of Gastonia, died Friday, April 15, 2011 at home. Born in Gaston County, he was the son of the late Roy Glenn, Sr. and Mildred Dellinger Dickson and son-in-law of the late Sarah Gray.

Bob was a graduate of Ashley High School and attended NC State. He worked with Burlington Industries for 20 years and retired from Duke Energy with 20 years of service. He was a life long member of South Marietta Street Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Deacons, Sunday School Director, Director of Vacation Bible School, sang in the choir and with the Church Quartet. He loved golf, bowling, baseball and traveling with his wife. Bob was a loving husband, father and “Poppy” who will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of fifty one years, Johnnie Gray Dickson; children, Donna McAllister and husband Ralph, Robert Michael Dickson, Timothy F. Dickson and wife Tracy; grandchildren, Melissa Terry and husband Derek, Makenna Dickson, Justin Dickson; brother, Roy “Sonny” Dickson; sister-in law: Pam Gray Beason and husband Bill; nephew, Brent Beason and wife Blair and father-in-law, Fred Gray.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at South Marietta Street Baptist Church. Rev. Fred High and Dr. Warner Doles will officiate. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1:30 PM prior to the service. Interment will follow the service.
