Alice Emmett (Davis)

GASTONIA – Alice Jane Emmett Davis passed away Saturday, November 15, 2014, at her home, with loved ones by her side.

She was born April 7, 1940 in Gaston County, to Lee Roy Emmett and Lois Skipper Emmett.

Alice was an accomplished and talented lady who made her mark on this world by bringing beauty to those who knew her. She was the owner of the Strawberry Cellar, a place where many shared in fellow-ship as they learned to Tole Paint under her direction. She later owned Southern Folks Originals that provided furniture and decorative arts. Many of her painted pieces were showcased in Old Salem, NC throughout the early years. 

She was also an accomplished interior designer who participated in decorating a room in Belmont's First Spring Show House, the Stowe Manor. Throughout the years, she continued to grow as an artist, becoming an accomplished portrait painter. Alice's creative spirit also enjoyed using God's beauty to fill her house with the most beautiful arrangements that she would pick from her yard. 

Alice had a love for life and people. She never met a stranger and could converse with anyone about anything. She had a gift for making people laugh and feel at ease. She adored her family and, through her devotion, Alice went beyond measures to make sure everyone was always taken care of. She was strong in her faith and a member of Parkwood Baptist Church.

"Nini" (as her grandchildren named her), is survived by her mother, Lois Skipper Emmett, her husband of 54 years, Jon Harold Davis, son Jon Michael Davis, daughter, Amy Davis Dherit and spouse Lowell Dherit, brother, Charles Phillip Emmett and spouse Carol Emmett, grandsons Mathew Hayden Breckenridge and Tanner Davis Breckenridge, special aunts and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Lee Roy Emmett, son, Gregory Emmett Davis, brother, James LeRoy Emmett.

The family will receive friends from 12 to 1:45 p.m., Tuesday, November 16, at McLean Funeral Direc-tors, Gastonia. The funeral service will follow in the Founder's Chapel at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. David Belle Isle officiating. Burial will be in Gaston Memorial Park.
