Obituary
 Mr. Walter Boyce Ratchford, Sr., 77, of Gastonia, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017 at Courtland Terrace. He was born March 18, 1940 in Greensboro, a son of the late Marvin Duff Ratchford and Lucy Ratchford Robinson. Walter spent his career in shipping, working first for Akers Motor Lines, then Flying Tigers Line, and retiring from FedEx. He was a member of Union Presbyterian Church and was a loving husband and father. Survivors of Walter include his devoted wife of 56 years, Shirley Beaty Ratchford; children, Ann Dameron; Sherry Ratchford Griffin; Walter Boyce Ratchford, Jr. and wife Katherine, all of Gastonia; Rodney Vance Ratchford of Rock Hill; brother and sister-in-law, Gene Arthur and Sandra Queen Ratchford of Gastonia; grandchildren, Lauren Ann Bryant, Mollie Sidebottom, Bryan Ratchford, Allie Fraley, Colt Ratchford, and Thomas Ratchford; great-grandchildren, Maddie, Chase, and Evan; nephews, Mike and Brent Ratchford and their families.
A service to celebrate Walter's life will be held 11:00am, Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Union Presbyterian Church with Rev. James Holeman and Rev. Dr. Joan Martin officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the gathering area. A private service of committal will be held for the family in the church cemetery.
