John White

GASTONIA - John Lamar White, 76, a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend, passed away Saturday, August 19, 2017, at Robin Johnson Hospice House.
John was a graduate of Ashley High School, class of 1959, where he played basketball for Coach Larry Rhodes. As a Gastonia native, he attended Wake Forest on a full scholarship to play basketball, and graduated from Catawba College. He went on to receive his brokerage license in New York. He continued as a successful stock broker for close to forty years.
He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Joanne McDaid White; sons John M. White (Holly), Joshua M. White (Marcia) and Job M. White; father Marshall Rauch; siblings Richard White, Anna Henderson, Ingrid Sturm (Larry), Marc Rauch (Wanda), Pete Rauch (Vicki) and Stephanie Rauch; grandchildren Jackson, Jacob and Emma Grace White and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by mother Jean Rauch, Louise and Arthur White, Dorothy Honeycutt, George White and Emma Jean Welborn.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia.
A service to celebrate John Lamar White will be held Thursday, August 24 at 2 p.m. in the Founders Chapel of McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia.
Interment will follow the service at Gaston Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gaston Hospice, P.O. Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28054, or to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Gaston, 310 S. Boyd St., Gastonia, NC 28052 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
