Elizabeth Anne Colvin Winters, 55, went home to be with the Lord on Oct. 13, 2009, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.
She was born on April 22, 1954, in Gastonia, daughter of Sue Falls Colvin and the late David Coleman Colvin Sr.
Anne graduated from Ashbrook High School and attended the University of South Carolina where she was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Anne was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church but also attended Freedom Christian Center in Charlotte. She was a former Miss Gastonia, a member of the Junior League of Gaston County and the Gastonia Debutante Club. As a young adult, she managed the statewide campaigns for colleges and universities for Ronald Reagan. Anne embodied a passion for youth. She organized summer youth camps, the Carolina Cowgirls – a baton twirling competition group, many spiritual interpretative dance performances, and theater She had a strong passion for animals especially horses and dogs. A lover of dance and the art of social graces, Anne founded the National League of Junior Cotillions - an etiquette and character education pro-gram for students of all ages, which she franchised nationwide. Anne spent her adult life teaching honor, dignity and respect to others for better relationships with family and friends. Her life, and the principles she stood for, have made a positive impact on untold thousands. Her children were the joy of her life. Above all, Anne was fully committed to sharing the love of Christ with everyone she met.
Anne was one of my best friends in HS and until I moved to the West Coast in 1979. She and I were living together at Park South Apartments in Charlotte when I was transfered for work to California....
She was such a fun person to be with. Every day she would pick me up on her way to school in her Jeep. Most of the time we were late and since we had the same homeroom teacher, I would just look at Anne when we walked in the door as if to say, "It's her fault". Anne would blick those big eyes at the teacher as if so say..."What!?" and that was the end of that conversation.
We would have slumber party's at her grandmother's house and they were always so much fun. It's too bad that social media wasn't around before she passed on. I would have loved to reconnect with her the way I have so many of my friends from high school.
She lives on in my memories and I get a smile on my face just thinking about what a nut she was. I read about her starting a business where people pay her to teach them manners. I'm sure she was blinking those big eyes of her the whole time.....
