Roger Stephen "Steve" Owens, 63, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Gaston County, son of the late John Cleveland "J.C.", Jr. and Jackie Fayssoux Owens. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, David Owens.
Steve was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. He worked as the building and grounds supervisor at First Presbyterian Church. Steve was involved in Scouting for many years and was Scout Master of Troop 11 and served on Wood Badge and NYLT training for the BSA Piedmont Council. He was an avid camper and loved the outdoors. He was a US Navy veteran serving from 1970-1976. Steve was a friend to all and will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his loving wife of 31 years, Robin Fisher Owens; sons, Rodney Owens, Chris Ivester and wife Marla; sister, Kathryn "Kat" Franklin; brothers, Bill Owens, John Owens, III and partner Jay Port; grandchildren, Matthew Queen, Daniel, Caroline and Brayden Ivester; great grandson, Easton Queen; nephews, Jason Owens, Derek Owens, Andrew Franklin, Will Owens and niece, Ami Owens.
The family will receive friends Saturday, November 9, 2013 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:00pm, Sunday, November 10, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Ned Buckner, Rev. Dr. John Frye and Rev. Dr. Brandon McCoy officiating. Interment will follow the service at Gaston Memorial Park.
