Laura Welander went to Goodman Middle School and began at Gig Harbor, and passed away from cancer while we were in high school. Please see below a quote we received from a '98 grad regarding Laura: "She was very quiet and shy, but a good student, and an excellent partner on projects and papers."
If you have any additional information regarding Laura, please post it here.
Laura was diagnosed with cancer early on in our freshman year of high school. She battled bravely for about two years and passed away in 1996. There is a page dedicated to her in our senior annual (the last page of the senior section).
As a cancer survivor myself, it is so important to never forget those who lose the fight with this terrible disease. One in three people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. The other two will know someone with the disease.
Laura loved horses, but never owned one. She was extremely intelligent and as nice as can be.
In the annual, her parents are quoted as saying, "Laura had a calm but determined spirit and her loving nature was a joy to all."
I spent a short amount of time in 4H during middle school, which Laura was highly involved with. She accepted me as a friend right away and helped me learn about 4H.
Laura's younger sister, Beth, graduated from GHHS in 2000.
Please never forget those who fight the good fight, but are still taken from our lives.
