Olaf Marlin Grosland, 81, of Marshalltown, passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2014 under the care of the Israel Hospice House in Ames.

 Memorial services for Olaf will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. A time of fellowship will be held after the services also at the funeral home.

 Olaf Grosland was born on June 3, 1933 in Kensett, Iowa to Helmer O. and Katie Rosella Rasmussen Grosland. Olaf attended Kensett High School and then later went on to Mason City Junior College and then Northern Iowa University.

Olaf served his country honorably in the United States Army in the Signal Corp from 1953 until 1955. He was stationed in Germany towards the end of the Korean War.

Olaf will be remembered by many people and he touched many lives being recognized for his diligent service in the East Marshall School District teaching Business Education for 34 years. 

Olaf was also a volunteer at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown for around twenty years. Olaf is a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars as well as the American Legion Post in Mason City.

 Left to cherish his memory is his sister Doris A Borchardt of Cleveland, Minnesota and his brother Robert E. Grosland of Orem, Utah. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews: Craig, Paul and Brian Borchardt, Scott, Tim, Ron and Bill Grosland, David Clancy, Tracy Grosland, Katie Winegar, Hiede Fliecher, Debby Mullin and Angela Johnson as well as numerous other great and great great nieces and nephews.

 Olaf is preceded in death by his parents, Helmer and Katie, brother Donald Grosland, sister Kathy Grosland and niece Susan Borchardt.
