Jan Johnson (Vashus)

Jan Miriam Vashus, age 67, of Heber City, UT, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at her home, among her family, following a valiant battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 1, 2023, at 3:00 pm, in the Chapel of Silha Funeral Home with Avis Anderson officiating. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Jan was born, March 23, 1956, in Helena, MT. She was adopted into the home of Robert and Miriam (Millier) Johnson on August 21, 1956. Jan graduated from Dawson County High School, with the class of 1974. Following high school, she attended Dickinson State University. She was married to Darrell Vashus, on August 30, 1975. On June 6, 1978, her son, Kyle David, was born. On April 18, 1981, her family was complete, with the birth of their daughter, Jill Marie.

Throughout her life, music played an enormous part of her life. In addition to participating in choir and band throughout high school and college, she was a member of the initial Teen Pipers group, founded by her mother. The same group was restarted by Jan and Miriam, in the late 1990s, with Jill as a member. She also was active in the Fractured Follies, for many years. She also taught piano lessons, for several years, and would sing for many weddings, as well.

Jans life revolved around her kids and grandchildrens activities. No distance traveled was too far for her to see her family play sports or perform in a band or plays. She loved to laugh, as well, sharing her fathers sense of humor, and love for classic comedy, like Carol Burnett, and Tim Conway. She also enjoyed socializing with her special group of friends, with events like golfing, or attending sporting events.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Miriam. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Darrell, her two children, Kyle (Kari) Vashus, of Vineyard, UT, Jill (Lucas) Sanchez, of Midway, UT, Doug and Kayrene Vashus. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Alex, Ethan, Mason, and Maxwell, and several nieces.
