While Kevin and I hung out with different folks during my 2 years at GBS, he and I became very good friends in the late 70's. So much so that I was best man at his wedding (he married Debbie Reitz, sister of Dennis Reitz) and Kevin stood up in my wedding. Kevin and Debbie had a daughter named Maryanne who is now a 17 year old young lady, who, unlike Kevin and Debbie, is tall, go figure.

Anyway, when Maryanne was still a toddler, Kevin developed Multiple Sclerosis, he took a number of different types of treatments to stave off this disease, but eventually was confined to a bed. I would visit with him at their home in Palatine and when he was in the hospital, I knew he could hear me, but as the disease worsened, he could not communicate back, so I'd just relate sport news, local news and general information.

The last time I visited with Kevin was shortly before his death in October of 2003. I knew he could still hear me so right before leaving his home, I leaned over him in bed and told him that I knew the end was near, that I loved him like a brother and that he not concern himself over his wife and daughter, that I would never leave in times of need or want, something I believe in very strongly to this date. People can and do come in and out of our lives at different times, I'm very proud to have called Kevin my friend and when I eulogized him at his funeral, it was all the funny (maybe now, back then we did some stupid stuff as well) and fond moments. Peace out to all, Lar.
