Craig R. Yudell, 54, of Northbrook, passed away on April 30, 2009. He was born in Flint, MI, son of Harvey C. Yudell and the late Donna (Peterson) Yudell. Craig was a resident of Northbrook for 25 years and a resident of Glenview for 20 years graduating from Glenbrook South High School in 1973. Craig was a thirty year veteran of New England Financial where he received many awards and commendations. Craig was the senior mentor in his neighborhood showing the younger neighbors how to enjoy life on Friday and Saturday nights. He loved the summer weekends when he could do what he liked best-enjoying the company of the neighbors, offering advice on projects, traveling to the hardware store (and avoiding his own chores at home). He was a giving soul as one of the founders of the Girls Northbrook Softball Association, a member of Northbrook Civic, and a coach for the Junior Spartan Football League for many years even after his son graduated to playing varsity for the Northbrook High School Football Team. Nothing brought Craig greater joy then his family and his wife of 25 years, Colleen nee Corbett, and their second home in Bay Lake, MN. His homes were a gathering place for family, and his wife's and children's friends. There was always a sports discussion before the big screen TV. The annual Christmas party required a heated tent besides the house to hold all their friends and children. He is survived by his beloved wife, Colleen; his children, Valerie, Vanessa and Vance; also survived by his
father, Harvey C. Yudell; brother, Carl
(Suzanne) Yudell; sister, Cathy (Geno)
Mussow; nephew, Alex; niece, Hailey and many friends. Also survived by Colleen's family, mother, Wilma Buckwalter Corbett; brother-in-laws, Brian and Stan (Cassie) Corbett; nephew, Ryan; niece, Sara (David) Ballard; and grandnephew, Brendan. Memorial Visitation Sunday 2 to 6 p.m. at N.H. Scott & Hanekamp Funeral Home, 1240 Waukegan Rd., Glenview (just South of Lake Ave. on West side) where Memorial service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to your favorite charity. Craig, you are missed. I recall Craig getting very fired up about some activities in Northbrook limiting the freedom of the GBN kids. I also recall the famous picture in our Etruscan of him wolfing down the "17th?" ice cream cone of the day in the cafeteria.Craig, we miss you, brother,

How fitting that Paul would recall Craig’s wolfing down the “17 ice cream cones”. I knew Craig from Glenview Jr. HS and he was part of my circle through GBS; after college I lived with him, drank, caroused, traveled and even fought with him. Ours was an “anything goes, no rules” kind of existence. Craig Yudell fairly wolfed down life itself with the same practically comical hedonism with which he devoured ice cream. Later on--- he and I having reached indulgent saturation---he was with me the night I met my future wife, and I was with him the night of his accident---the one leading directly to his meeting Colleen. From there, we veered by necessity to other people and priorities. Still, Craig stayed a friend and I last saw him at my 25th Anniversary celebration in November 2007. We all say this with remorse and way too much frequency: “I only wish I’d known that would be the last time I’d see him.”
