With out a doubt, Ersdeen Cogdell was the finest young man I had the pleasure to get to know during my time growing up in Goldsboro. The Most Intelligent and forthright person, at that age, anyone of us had every encountered. His memory lives on in me each and every day! I'm proud to have known him and can truly say: "I'm a better person today because of his impact on my life as a friend"
Words alone cannot express the genuine friendship we shared. Ersdeen was like a family member to me especially since my mother's brother (uncle June Peacock)was and still is married to his mom's sister (Betty Ward Peacock).
I was blessed to be asked by the immediate family to give words of encouragement and to sing a solo(never sang because the Holy Ghost to over my spoken words that day) at his standing-room only "homegoing celebration".
TO BE ABSENT IN THE BODY IS TO BE PRESENT WITH THE LORD and THE DEAD IN CHRIST SHALL RISE FIRST...Cogdell made it known that he gave his life to Christ and confessed Him and his personal Lord and Savior approximately 3 months before his sudden death...oh the grace and mercy of God shown right here...Amen!
A best friend, a brother, a real man who has remained on our minds and in our hearts as if he were still here with us. This speaks to the impact that this brother made on our lives and his prominence as a man of integrity. To this day, in my prayer time, I thank God for blessing me with the opportunity to have met Deen and to have had the opportunity to call him my best friend. He was the one who helped my brother David and me "fit in" when we moved back to Goldsboro in 1973 after having lived in Germany. From that day until the day of his passing, he was right there through thick and thin; the good, the bad, and the ugly! He was a true friend and a true brother. I pray for Angie and his beautiful daughter Jasmine. Blessings, pleace and love.
I knew Ersdeen since 5th grade at School Street School and we had the same teacher. We even shared a special math curriculum. I have nothing but respect for him and will miss him tremendously.

I agree, Eddie. An intelligent, kind, and outgoing young man gone way too soon. I will always miss him.Delton Adams, Sr
