Orlene Reiswig (Peck)

Orlene Peck 1920-2017

Orlene H. (Reiswig) Peck, 96, of Longview, WA, (formerly of Goodwell, OK) passed away March 5, 2017, at Somerset Retirement & Assisted Living Center in Longview.

She was born to Frederick and Anna Reiswig April 13, 1920, in Hooker, OK. Orlene completed high school in Adams, OK, and graduated from Panhandle Agricultural and Mechanical College (later changed to Panhandle State University) in Goodwell, where she studied Business and English. Her first teaching position was in 1943-44 in Elkhart, KS, where she taught high school business classes.

In March 1944 Orlene married Raymond A. Peck, who was serving in the U. S. Army Air Corps. During his tenure in the military during World War II, they lived in Amarillo, TX; Burbank, CA; and Alamogordo, NM. Upon Raymond’s discharge from the military, they made their home in Goodwell, OK, where he was Head Professor of Agronomy at Panhandle A&M College. A 29-year teaching career at Goodwell High School culminated with Orlene’s retirement in 1982, after which she looked forward to spending more time with family, as well as doing the things she enjoyed the most--gardening, cooking, baking, traveling, and camping.

Retirement for Orlene and Raymond brought on a life-changing decision—to uproot from Oklahoma and move to the Pacific Northwest to live out their retirement years. In May 1983 they moved to Longview, WA, and purchased a home where Orlene resided until 2010. For the past six and one-half years, her home has been Somerset Retirement and Assisted Living Center in Longview.

Orlene is survived by two sons—Don Peck (Carla) of Urbandale, IA, and Terry Peck (Carolyn) of Longview, WA; five grandchildren--Christie Hulet (Dave) of Clive, IA; Kimberly Cahalan (Shaun) of Waukee, IA; Jennifer Harrison (Mike) of Urbandale, IA; Ryan Peck (Tina) of Wichita, KS; and Aaron Peck (Shari), of Waimea, HI; nine great-grandchildren—Jackson, Easton, & Gracyn Peck of Wichita, KS; Braeden Peck, Layson & Landon Harada of Waimea, HI; Jonathon & Addison Cahalan of Waukee, IA; and Emily Harrison of Urbandale, IA-- as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Orlene in death were her beloved husband Raymond in 2005; her parents Frederick and Anna Reiswig; and her sisters Leona Pauls and Vera Edwards.

Orlene will be remembered for her remarkable memory, up until her final days. She was thankful to God for all she had and was especially grateful for the loving family He gave her. There was nothing more important to her than family; and in turn, her family members are left with cherished memories of the times they spent together.

A celebration-of-life memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 10, 2017, in the Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Longview Community Home Health and Hospice, P. O. Box 2067, Longview, WA 98632.
