Dennis M. Eckman, 62, Hawley, MN, died Sunday, February 5th, 2017, in Hawley Senior Living.
Dennis Michael Eckman was born February 18th, 1954, the son of Carl and Magdalen Gillis Eckman in Grand Forks, ND. His family lived in Grand Forks where he attended school and became an Eagle Scout. He moved to various cities while working for Burlington Northern and eventually settled in Burlington, IA where he met and married Linda Bundy Eckman in 1981, and then moved to Colorado where they purchased their first home. While living in Colorado, their two children, Christopher Michael Eckman 1988 and Anastasia Charity Eckman 1993 were born. They left Colorado, following job opportunities with Burlington Northern – Santa Fe, living in Montana for a year, and then returning closer to home in Moorhead, MN where they stayed.
Dennis enjoyed remodeling parts of almost every home he lived in, becoming an expert craftsman as he also became a Master Electrician for the railroad.
In 2016 Dennis married his second wife, Linda Sonius-Dietrich in Hawley, MN, where they resided. He recently completed construction of a new garage at their home, among a variety of other improvements to the home.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Linda Sonius-Dietrich; son Christopher Timothy Nester, Denver, CO; daughter, Anastasia fiancé Tyler Wencel, Bloomington, MN; grandson Max; three brothers, David Victoria, Douglas Carmen, Richard Nancy; three sisters, Colleen Philip Mann, Laura Darrell Berg, Jane Eckman. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 11:30 AM with a visitation starting at 11:00 AM in Wright Funeral Home, Hawley, MN.
