Bean-Massey-Burge Funeral Home Beltline Road
Marty Dean Hoffman of Grand Prairie, TX was born on June 14, 1956, in Moorhead, Minnesota to Reinhart Reno and Joyce Klein Hoffman, and passed away from heart failure on November 8, 2024 at the age of 68 in Schaumburg, Illinois while on a business trip.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Stacey Casalenda.
Marty was a 1974 graduate of Red River High School in Grand Forks, North Dakota where he played football and hockey. He went on to earn an academic scholarship to The University of North Dakota in Grand Forks where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Marty was recruited by several promising companies out of college including 3M, Seadoo, and Pratt & Whitney, but decided to begin his career with Texas Instruments in Dallas, Texas in 1979. Marty and Gretchen met in 1985 and married in August of 1987 in Lufkin, Texas. Three months later they moved to Grand Prairie where they resided and raised their daughters Chelsea and Kiersten. After TI he transitioned into an Aerospace career which spanned over 40 years. This included 27 years at Boeing and BAE Systems, and ended one month shy of 14 years at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics on the AV&MS Supplier Quality Engineering Core Team where he led and assisted in Audits, Supplier Relocations, and Counterfeit Management/Prevention efforts.
Marty, with his laid-back personality, touched the lives of many people he worked with throughout his career. He was the one who could get things done with a great sense of humor and always a big smile on his face!
Marty traveled for both work and pleasure, and over the years many people received, “Where Am I?” selfies as he made his way through all 50 states and across the Atlantic to Spain, Italy, Morocco, Israel and several other countries. Marty always made weightlifting a habit and could be found at Planet Fitness on weekends and in the evenings. He also enjoyed doing yard work, daily walks with Bishop, going to Top Golf, watching UT play football and attending many of their football games in both Austin and at the Cotton Bowl. However, the most important things in his life were his wife and daughters. He was a loving and supportive husband and helicopter dad who was always there for his family even when it might have been inconvenient for him. He was always active in Chelsea and Kiersten’s various school activities and made it a point to attend all of their extracurricular activities throughout their lives.
He is survived by his devoted wife, of 37 years, Gretchen, and two daughters Chelsea and Kiersten, and their dogs Bishop and Rook, and cat Harley Quinn. Brothers Tim and wife Susan of Keller, TX {Michelle (Josh) TJ and Jessica}, and Brian and wife Bethany of St. Joseph, MI {Cullen, Summer, and Kane}, brother-in-law, Nick Casalenda, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Robert and Nadine Nickeson of Safety Harbor, FL {Matt, wife Melissa (Felix and Iris) and Stephen}, Ken and Charnita Justiss of Dallas, TX {Gavin (Jaina)}, Kent and Esther Turner of Fairview, TX {Kurt and wife Kim (Chloe), Keri and husband Ryan (Emma and Aaron), Edward and Glenora Patterson of Amarillo, TX {Bryan and wife Michaela (Aurelia), Alicia and husband Nick (Caleb, Calista, Celeste), Monica and husband Ben} and Gilbert and Johanna Spring of Austin, TX.
The visitation will be held Friday, November 29, 2024, at 11:00 am, followed by his Celebration of Life Service at 1:00 pm at Bean-Massey-Burge Funeral Home 2591 S. Beltline Rd, Grand Prairie, TX 75052.
