In 1981 I was stationed at the Marine Corps Airbase in Tustin, CA. The hangers where most of the people worked were about a mile walk from the barracks, mess hall and other facilities and there were always people walking back and forth.

One evening I was driving back to the barracks and thought I should give someone a ride. I pulled up to a couple Marines and as they get in I hear, "Snyder is that you?". There was Pat getting into the back seat of my car. I don't know why I picked that group to give a ride to and I had no idea that Pat was in Tustin or even joined the Marine Corps. It is funny how things happen like that. Pat and I tore up Orange County until I was transferred a few weeks later.

I didn't learn of death until several years later. He is sorely missed by all who knew him. The thing I remember most about him, was that he was always smiling.

Pat died in a house fire while on active duty, USMC, Camp Lejuene, NC. If I remember right, it was 1983. He made it safely out of the fire then, apparently thinking someone was still inside, went back in. Unknown to Pat, everyone was out safely. He was found just inside the front door.
I lived right next door to Pat and his family on 15th street in GI, until they moved to Omaha.
