Mike passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2012. As of now, there is no formal obituary. But, here is some information I have to pass along:
------------------------------------------------------------------
6/21/2012
To all of Michael’s friends, please read the following message if you are interested in what plans are currently being made for remembering Michael.
First off, in order to be completely transparent, let me explain who all is involved in the group helping to make these plans. Allen Jones (former long time partner of Michael’s) and myself were listed as Michael’s emergency contacts and were asked ...to take a lead role in this. In addition, several other friends of Michael's were asked to participate in a group that will oversee fundraising, a remembrance gathering and where all monies raised will be distributed. The members of the M.A.F. organizing committee are: Allen Jones, John Millier, Scott Hebert, Pat Weikle, Dan Hawks, Max Alvarado, Jody Weaver and Greg Dillard.
Upon forming as a group, we opened an independent account which we have named the Michael Adams Fund (M.A.F.) This money has been, and will be used in the following way: First off we spent some of the money on expenses related to Michael’s passing that his mother was responsible for. The next priority of the fund is to ensure outstanding expenses related to Michael’s apartment are taken care of. To date we have been able to take care of these bills through the month of June. We are trying to fund Michael’s July expenses as well if needed. The next area the fund will support is the remembrance gathering we are planning. (We hope to have details on this soon.) Anything left over we will use to make a charitable donation to the Center for Neurodevelopment Disorders, a consortium of 22 universities working together on researching Aspergers Syndrome. We are keeping track of all donations, with their names and amounts and disbursements. We would be happy to share this information with anyone who wishes to review them.
The fundraising is taking place through a numbers of ways. First, we have a direct PayPal account, which you can get to by emailing Scott Hebert at: Scott.06@comcast.net. The Atlanta Bucks will be having a fundraiser at the Eagle this Saturday and 50% of the proceeds will benefit the Michael Adams Fund. On Friday, June 29, The Atlanta Bucks will host another fundraiser at the Heretic with 100% of the proceeds being donated to the M.A.F. If there is anyone who would like to participate in other fundraising events, please contact any of us if you’d like to donate the money to the fund.
Michael was not a religious man, as I’m sure many of you already know. He felt strongly about not having a funeral or formal memorial. That however doesn’t mean his friends don’t still need an opportunity to gather in remembrance of Michael. We know Michael had many friends from all over and he was often the common link between many different social groups in and around Atlanta. We are working on putting something together we think all will feel comfortable participating in however, we also realize many of you may want to do your own special thing to remember Michael. In terms of a formal service or memorial however, this remembrance gathering will take the place of anything like that. Although we have several things in the works and a venue offered to us, we welcome any ideas any of you may have.
I am sorry we have not been able to get this information out to you sooner but as you can imagine, this has been a very difficult time for all.
