Gail (Foltz)

Gail A. Foltz, 75, of Grangeville, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010, at Syringa General Hospital in Grangeville. Gail was born Dec. 22, 1934, at Mobridge, S.D., a daughter of Kenneth and Lois Dishtash Wolverton. When she was a young girl, her family lived in Washington and Oregon before moving to Moscow. She graduated from Moscow High School in 1953, then attended the University of Idaho, graduating with a bachelor's degree in physical education and health in 1957. She then taught school in San Bernardino, Calif., for two years and taught for one year in Boise before moving to Grangeville in 1960. She married Norman (Butch) Foltz on Aug. 27, 1960, at Moscow. She and her husband would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 27. She taught at Grangeville until 1998, when she retired. Gail was a coach from 1975 to 1999 and was the girls track coach for 27 years. She coached several state champions and won a team state title. She was inducted into the Idaho High School Activities Association's Hall of Fame in 2004. Following her retirement, she and her husband volunteered as officials for the state track meet in Boise for several years. She opened the doors in the mornings at Groaners Health Club for several years. She was a member of the Idaho Education Association and she enjoyed snowmobiling. Gail is survived by her husband, Butch, of Grangeville; her daughter, Katrena Foltz of Nine Mile Falls, Wash.; and her brother, Kenneth Wolverton of Spokane. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister. Memorial services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Aug. 28 in the Grangeville High School auditorium.
