I recently received a phone call from Jerry Davis informing me of the passing of our classmate, John Smiskol. Jerry was not certain of when John passed. He thought it had been in the last couple of weeks. It took me a while to locate John's obituary. Unfortunately John passed in 2025. Following is what I found in reading his obituary and I quote:

John Smiskol, 82, a residnet of Grayslake, IL, passed away October 6, 2025 at his home. John is sirvived by his loving companion Barbara Herek, his nieces and nephews Elise Matusek, Lori (Vince) Heywood, Jim Matusek, and Kristi (Dan) Rosen. Precded in death by his parents and his sister, Robberta Matusek

John was a passinate world traveler, known for his love of skiing, and exploring new places simply for the joy of it.  Whenever you dreamed of going, John had likely been there--ready with stories, insights, and expert travel tips. Earlier in life, he made his mark in the rally car world, rising to the top of the national stage and earning respect throughout the sport. He will surely be missed!

John's funeral arrangemts were with Strang's in Grayslake. He was buried at Avon Centre Cemetery in Grayslake.
