
GREENSBORO — Bert Wade of 16 Sommerton Drive, Greensboro, died at Moses Cone Hospital on Thursday, May 27, 2010.
Bert was born August 17. 1932 in Marietta, Georgia, the only child of Penny and Clarence B. Wade, Sr. The family moved to Greensboro when Bert was an infant.
Bert graduated from Greensboro Senior High School in 1950 where he was voted "Most Talented" by his classmates. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was a graduate of Harris School of Advertising Art in Nashville, Tennessee, a graduate of the US Naval School of Photography in Pensacola, Florida, and a graduate of the Writer's Digest School. Bert served in the US Navy during the Korean War and was the Ship Photographer for the great aircraft carrier, the USS Boxer.
He was the President/Creative Director of Winch and Wade Advertising before becoming the Senior Writer for Tracy Locke Advertising in Denver, Colorado. He collected numerous awards for creative excellence in print, radio, and television. He also was heavily involved in video scriptwriting and production. He was a Professional Member of the National Writers Club, a member of the Small Press Writers and Artists Organization and the North Carolina Poetry Society, Inc. His published credits were numerous including articles for USA Today and the Denver Post.
Bert moved back to Greensboro in 1987, and continued freelance copywriting, layout, design and consultation as owner of Wade Creativeworks. In Greensboro, he wrote over fifty articles for the ESP Magazine. Bert Wade will be remembered by all who knew him as a mighty fine piano player and a multifaceted, talented and down to earth guy.
After retirement, Bert spent many happy days at his home in Southport. Some of his original paintings were often on display in Southport Art Galleries. The locals fondly referred to him as "Mister Bert," accepting him as Southport's own.
Bert was predeceased by his parents and his previous wife, Susan Manley Wade.
He is survived by wife, Anne Kirkman Wade of the home, his children, Michael and Stephanie Wade, his stepchildren Joe W. Kirkman, Jr., Jacqueline Kirkman Campbell and her husband Glenn, and step grandchildren Jessica, Christopher and Rachel.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to First Presbyterian Church, the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra, or any heart research foundation.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church on Elm Street in Greensboro. There will be no formal visitation. Burial will be private.
