The Ben L. Smith Class of 1979 lost another brother on Tuesday, March 29th. Julius Lott left this world way too soon and will be missed by family & friends. Life is short my fellow Eagles!

 

ATLANTA Julius Lee Lott, age 54, died in his home in Atlanta, GA on March 29, 2016 after a brief illness. Julius was born on June 14, 1961 in Greensboro, NC to Dorothy Lee Williams and Arthur Lott. He was a graduate of Ben L. Smith High School and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Julius was a lifelong member of the Boys and Girls Club, starting at the age of 11. He dedicated his life to continuing to give back all of the tools that were given to him through his association at the Boys and Girls Club. Julius rose through the ranks from program director of the Greensboro Club to executive director of a satellite club in Greensboro. After holding various directorships in the Boys and Girls Club organization, Julius subsequently became the Vice President of Diversity of the Boys and Girls Club of America. He has received numerous awards, to include the national Herman S. Prescott Award in May, 2008 and was inducted into the Greensboro, NC Hall of Fame in 2014. Julius became a member of Plymoth Rock Lodge number 86 in Atlanta, GA in May of 1996. He served as lodge secretary from 2003 to 2006; served as Worshipful Master from 2010 to 2011; and was a member of the Arena Chapter Number 29 where he served as Worthy Patron from 2015 until his death. Julius also served as Assistant Grand Secretary for M.W.E.H.G.L. of Georgia and also supported the Tyree J. Walters Youth Chapter. Julius is preceded in death by his father, Arthur Lott; sister Barbara Jean Williams; brother Willie Gibson Jr; and brother, Robert Williams. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Lee Williams; his brothers Ronne Williams, John Gibson, Bernard Williams, Burnell Lott; and a special dear friend, Kameetrice Farrell; a host of nieces and nephews as well as grand-nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to your local Boys and Girls Club in Julius' name.

Services are planned for Mon April 4 at Shiloh Baptist Church on South Elm Eugene Street in Greensboro. Visitation is from 12 -12:30 .Service starts at 1:00 pm.
