Joan Marie Barrett

GREENSBORO — Joan Marie Barrett, 51, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2013, following a lengthy battle with breast and lung cancers. She was born October 3, 1961, four minutes after her twin brother John. Joan was a beautiful beacon of light who never met a stranger. She was our little hippie chick who personified the phrase "live, laugh, and love."

Joan considered her greatest accomplishment and gift to be her son Patrick. The time they spent together was her most treasured.

Joan loved the Lord, and was gifted with the ability to write music and play multiple instruments without a single lesson. Her beautiful voice blessed all who heard. Please visit YouTube and type in "Angel on Her Shoulder - Joan Barrett" to hear Joan sing and play her self-written song.

Joan was predeceased by her parents Hugh Martin Barrett, Sr., Patricia Gilmore Barrett, brother Hugh Martin Barrett, Jr., her grandparents, and aunt.

She is survived by her son Patrick Barrett, sisters Becky Dolinger (Tom) and Vicki Fentress (Howard), twin brother John (Amy), aunt Midge Barrett, nieces Christy McNeal (Jonathan), Rebecca Byerly, Ally Barrett, Jordan Wyrick, Melodi Fentress, nephews Tom Dolinger (Leah), Bishop Byerly (Tammy), Spencer White, and many other loved ones.

The family would like to thank Dr. McCarty, Dr. Sherrill, and the staffs of the Wesley Long and Randolph Cancer Centers.

The internment will be held on Saturday, April 6 at 11 a.m. at Pine Hill Cemetery in Burlington, NC. Joan's nephew, Pastor Tom Dolinger, will officiate.

A celebration of Joan's life will follow from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the farm of Vicki, Howard White, and Patrick Barrett, at 1004 Branson Mill Rd., Pleasant Garden, NC. Let's have a true celebration of her life! Bring covered dish, lawn chair, and enjoy the fellowship!

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Cancer Society - Let's find a cure!
