In Memory

Jonathan Hanson

Jonathan HansonFrom Janice (Hall) Weiss: Jon and I used to live just four houses down from each other on Pebble Dr. He died in his sleep at his parents home about two or three years ago. He was visiting his parents for the weekend when it happened. Everytime I go by his house, I think of him...though his parents have now moved away. My dad went to Jon's funeral and saw several of his Grimsley friends in attendance.

I don't have strong memories of Jon from high school, but from playing in the neighbourhood as kids. We used to have great games of 'roller bat' in the street and play capture the flag in the woods behind our houses. When it snowed, the kids of the neighbourhood would gather at the top of Pebble and make a bon fire and enjoy a night of sledding.
Cheers to Jon.

I also lived down Pebble from Jon. I was rocked when I read of his death.
We used to hang out some Junior and Senior year. Our main activity was studying for Ms. Mccullough's Geometry class. We both shared a dislike for that woman and were bound and determined to pass her class. As I remember she called all the girls in the class by their first names and the guys by Mister. She was a man hater.
Anyway, the first time Jon and I studied together for one of her tests,we both aced the test. She acccused the both of us of cheating and made us retake another test. She sat us at far end of the room from each other. We both aced the retest, both made 100.
I remember Jon being elated and expressing the fact that we had beaten the man hating teacher.
We both walked on air the rest of the week.

Godspeed Jon

I have lived in Greensboro since 1994, and remember a few years ago reading with much sadness Jon's obituary in the Paper. Our Junior year a few of us took an English Class with Mr. Smith during 5th period, giving us the dreaded 4th period lunch! Some of us in the class, (Jon, Robert Bingham, David Reynolds, along with me, can't remember the others, please identify yourselves!), would often go to lunch together at 4th period, (usually to Taco Bell!), before the class. I still have good memories of the class and the lunches before. An aside, (it's a little off-subject, but it DID make me think of Jon), a couple of years ago I took a Tour of the American Hebrew Academy. One of the Speakers was from the English Department, also the Girls Track Coach. Richard Smith! Yes, the same person who taught at Grimsley and whose class we had for that class our Junior Year!
