We are grieved and saddened to learn that our classmate Wendy Thompson Leonard passed away on Monday, April 19. Wendy was a friend to so many of us, and she was instrumental in making our 15th and 20th class reunions happen.

The family will receive friends Thursday, April 22, 6 – 8:30 at Forbis and Dick North Elm Street Chapel. A 2:00 PM Funeral service will be held Friday, April 23rd at Christ United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Wendy Thompson Leonard

Wendy Thompson Leonard, 44, passed away April 19, 2010 after a long battle with an autoimmune nerve disease which she fought with dignity and honor.

A 2:00 PM Funeral service will be held Friday, April 23rd at Christ United Methodist Church in Greensboro with Rev. Susan Norman-Vickers officiating.

A native of Greensboro, Wendy was born March 4, 1966 the daughter of Howard W. and Eudora Lee Smith Thompson. With an ever-present smile, she never met a stranger. Among her many accomplishments, she was a Greensboro Symphony Debutante in 1985, a member of the Grimsley High School Alumni Association, a member of the Dolley Madison Woman’s Club and a faithful member of the “Ya Ya” Social Club where she spent countless hours of fun times with very special friends. She worked as a loss mitigator with Wendover Funding. Most importantly she was a proud “Daddy’s Girl” and loved her cat Rusty very much.

Wendy was preceded in death by grandparents Luther and Luella Thompson of Burlington, NC and Robert L. Smith, Jr. of Elon, NC, father-in-law Lewis Steve Leonard of Greensboro and special nephew K. Damien Pearman.

She is survived by her loving husband of 14 years, Steven Taylor Leonard, parents Howard W. and Eudora Lee Smith Thompson; brothers Lt. Col. (retired Air Force) Steven L. Thompson (Brenda) of Niceville, FL, H. Christopher Thompson and special brother Roger Webb; grandmother Florance Hughes Smith of Elon; uncles George H Thompson (Faye) of Supply, NC, Robert L. Smith, Jr. (Margaret) of Burlington, close cousin Lorie Smith Goodwin (Michael) of Elon, and second cousins Elizabeth and Catherine Goodwin. In addition, Wendy is survived by sisters-in-law Ashley Dalton (Tim) of Winston-Salem and Lynn Omondi (Captain Omandi Onyango) of Camp Humphrey, South Korea. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Mrs. Donna Leonard of Greensboro.

Special thanks to all of Wendy’s supportive friends and family, especially her husband and Dad. Thanks also to her many doctors and special group of “Ya Ya” friends.
