Was in school with Steve since elementary school. He and Debbie bought the house next to my mom and what sweet giving people to my mom. Nothing to say but they were just the greatest. I am so sad to hear this.

I'm sad to hear this news. Steve and I were in home rooms together, and we played basketball both with and against each other. Always a super nice guy. May you have fair winds and following seas as you cross the bar, my friend.

I first met Steve through Cub Scouts.  His Mother was the "Den Mother" and my first introduction to the Blackwood family was a Cub Scout Sleepover at their house on Dogwood Drive. Steve and I went all the way through grade school together. I lost track of him after high school, but am now at an age where I cherish these fond memories of those early years and of those early friends like Steve!  Chuck Mendenhall

Steve was a great friend for as long as I can remember. Sternberger, Kiser, GHS, great memories. We were not out of touch for long. Got to play golf with him a couple of times in the last few years.
Semper Fi, brother.

I have many school experiences and stories I could tell about Steve, but the memories I remember began on March 1, 1970. I picked Steve up in my 1963 Pontiac Tempest and we drove to Quantico,  VA. We began OCS, Officers  Candidate  School. After 60 days 0f the most intense training known to mankind, Steve and I were commissioned  2nd Lieutenants in the Marine Corps. I fondly remember Steve's name being tenderly screamed by numerous Drill Sergeants. Once they had his attention, Steve was given the opportunity to correct any judgment errors. Once OCS was completed, we began six months of training at the Marine Corps Basic School. Steve and I received orders following graduation taking us to different  assignments. I was fortunate to catch up with Steve during class reunions. Good bye, friend. Semper Fi

After High Scool I Iost contact with Steve until I ran into him and Brett English in Quantico Va.  while attending Marine Corps Basic School.  We of course got caught up on everything that had happened since our days at Grimsley and particularly what motivated us to become Marine Officers.  Unfortunately, we lost contact after our 6 months at Quantico and I did not see him again until our High Scool Class reunion a few years ago when we "caught up" again after several decades.  Naturally, our conversation centered around our time in the Marine Corps, the places we had been and experiences we encountered....how I enjoyed talking with him.  Marines have a special bond that make us a Band of Brothers regardless of how many years we served, and it is with great sadness that I learned of Steve's passing.  As with Brett, I say Semper Fi' my brother and I will see you on the other side.

Steve Blackwood was a good friend. Over. the past 40 years we shared many a lunch, played many rounds of golf, celebrated many New Year’s Eves. I will miss him dearly. In case you didn’t notice, the world shifted when we lost Steve. A bit of softness left and the edges got harder. Kindness is a shorter supply. The stock of loyalty diminished. There are fewer gentlemen. The speed of the average vehicle on our highways and byways increased.
Steve, was worthy of emulation.  With his graduate degree in history, he initiated in me an enduring interest and appreciation for the study of history. Please indulge me one anecdote. Steve was driving us along a quiet county road one Saturday morning on the way to sail some city reservoir. His eyes snapped to the rear view and he pulled over. Without a word, he jumped out, ran back 50 yards and helped a box turtle across the road. He returned, gave me his shrug/smile. I think of him each time I follow his example.
