If I remember right, Sammy was out mowing his yard when he died. His widow Babs was living in the Jackson area.
Sammy was instrumental in "finding" a lot of classmates at one of the first reunions. He had a "watts" line at work and did a lot of calling
Sam's widow Babs wrote the following.
.Comments: I have been busy, busy, busy! As most of you know, my husband, Sam, died suddenly in 1995 of a heart attack at age 52. I have never re-married - men don't seem to like a bossy, controlling woman like me! Ha! Until 12/2008, I worked for Avaya as a Territory Manager. I have been doing this type of work for 44 years - started with South Central Bell right out of high school, then was assigned to AT&T & then Lucent Technologies. I retired from Lucent in 2000, but when they divested the division that became Avaya they called me back as a new hire so I could keep my Lucent retirment. Now that is not bad. I have three beautiful grandchildren, Skylar 22, Savanah 16 and Sam 12. My son, Wade is a hair stylist, here in Jackson and is very talented - he writes songs, plays the guitar, and sings. I would be very willing to host something here at my home in Jackson for our class!

I just received an e-mail from Sam's widow, Babs Summerhill, and she requested that I post the date of Sam's passing; 09/30/1995.
Babs will be at this, our 50th Reunion too, and we welcome her back. I believe their home is still in Brandon, MS.
I miss Sam; a great guy! He was the most friendly person to me at the 30th Reunion, and I remember that well. Sam always had a kind or encouraging word to say. As Mary Lynn said, Sam put a tremendouse amount of volunteer effort into our reunion, and it was done with a positive and can-do attitude. Sam was simply a nice guy!
Rest in peace, Sam.
