Ray has a son, Wayne, who lives with his family in Arkansas. He and his wife, Stephanie, have a son, Cody, and twin girls, Autum and Amber. Ray was killed when Wayne was a toddler.
Ray and I were friends. We both liked fast cars. When my '55 Dodge blew an engine in '65, I bought Ray's old Dodge for a replacement engine. God was good and I never got a ticket or wrecked when driving that car and engine at speeds in access of 110 mph. I estimated that Hemi-head motor could reach at least 130 mph. I often think of Ray. According to one source, Ray was about to come home the day he lost his life.
Services for PFC Charles Ray Ornsbey, who was killed Feb. 23 in Vietnam, were scheduled this afternoon (Thursday) at Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Ornsbey, 23, was a former resident of Greenville, where memorial services were held Wednesday.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Vivian Heath Ornsbey; a son, Howard Wayne; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ornsbey; a sister, Mrs. Inez Harper, all of Greenville; two brothers, John Ornsbey of Coffeeville and Max Ornsbey of Dallas, TX.
