I remember Mickey. We were in classes together every year I was in high school. Played drums in the band. Shot himself through the hand. Lost a toe and a finger as a result. He was my lab partner in Coach Stuart's Junior Year Chemistry, and amazed both the Coach and I when he applied the taste test to one of our experiments.
Mickey! Moon-doggie! Michael Aloysius O'Neal! What can I say?! You were, and will remain, one of my favorites, and one of my brothers. When you accidently shot your hand, losing your finger finger, it was terrible, funny, sad, unbelieveable. You came to "stay with me" when I lived on Moss Point! You were one of a kind. I miss you, my friend. I am diminished with the words of your passing.
In a high school class, which one I don't remember - Mickey sat in front of me. One day he turned around in his desk and asked if I was doing anything on Friday night. I said, "No, why do you ask?" He replied, "Maybe you should take a bath." funny - but not fun! VHJ
Mickey had a very STRANGE sense of humor. I am certain he felt he was being witty, not mean. Still, I can certainly empathize -- because of the many things he said to me. Interestingly enough, years after graduation, when I was living in Escatawpa, MS, Mickey "dropped" by, stayed a few days (couple of weeks if I remember right) and only left after he went outside one night in a thunderstorm and took a shower, and came back into the house, naked and dripping wet. My (then) wife politely asked him to "get the h*** out of her house!" He did, the next morning. I never heard from him again. Mike Williams probably knew Mickey better than any of us. He and Mickey were pretty good friends.
