Wayne Lehman (1970)

I grew up just down the road from James and his family.  Neighborhood football and baseball, basketball with the Day boys, riding horses, fixing old cars up ( that never ran quite right) motorcycles that were more junk than bike, swinging on ropes that were to high, hunting rabbits with a spotlight, stomping through snow just because it was there, throwing eggs at Holloween, swimming where we shouldn't, not going where we should, taking long trips in a car just the 2 of us, drinking cokes with peanuts in the bottle ( I still do that from time to time), taking my dads boat at night to gig frogs, ( he ate them but I never could ) We were more of the Tom and Huckleberry type rather than the prim and propers. We were always muddy or smelled of horses or hunting dogs, oil or grease. All of us were a real close group.  We came from the wrong side of the tracks back then.  However he fared better in those early years because he was an outgoing guy that was friends with everyone.  Ready to stand up for the weak and stand by the strong and go toe to toe with anyone.  We both at times stood back to back with a look of dare in our eyes. I will always remember him just like his picture shows him to be.

He was my friend and I shall always and forever be his.

I have no complaints.  My god rest your good hearted soul.
