Jahalia had enough credits to graduate a year early from GHS. She went to Delta State our senior year. We took some courses together the summer of 1970 at MDJC. We carpooled together and I got my first speeding ticket with her on Hwy 1. I don't remember who she married but she lived several years in that town in Louisiana where they filmed Steel Magnolias. I ran into her and her brother Jack in the mall in Greenville in the 90's. She still was so pretty and full of herself.

After the tenth reunion, Jim Chick and I wound up at this bar in Jackson, just wasted and drained after the weekend, and here we are at Scrooge's, wondering why in the hell we were there, and in walks Jahala, who had not come to the reunion. We all had a good time telling stories about it, but she never said she regretted not coming. She never attended one that I remember. Sad, because she was so much fun and had a great dry wit. I don't think I ever actually saw her again after that. Dabney and I visited Jahala's Mother after she died, Jack was there, and it was just too heavy. Jahala's picture was everywhere, and her Mother would just sob. First time I ever really spent any time around Jack, and found him to be a really good guy. Dabney made me go over there. She has a bigger heart than most of you know.
