Betty was a very special person. Always full of life and a frien to everyone. Usually someone as popular as she was did not find it necessary to speak to everyone. Betty would go out of her way to make everyone feel welcome. Our paths crossed a several times over the last several years of her life and she was as beautiful a person then as she ever was.

I first met Betty Kerg when I was in Elementary School at Ella Darling School. I had never met anyone like her. She was beautiful, out going and always friendly to everyone. Of course I went to E. E. Bass and she went to Solomon. But, our paths still crossed as junior high cheerleaders. In high school, she was a friend and again, always nice to everyone. I am glad I knew Betty. She was one of a kind.

As I re-read these comments, the thing that stands out in each one is that Betty was always friendly to everyone. I think that alone is an amazing legacy.

I always thought Betty was one of the most beautiful girls I had ever seen. On top of that, she was one of the most friendly.

Betty's death date is listed here at this link http://www.deltastate.edu/docs/alumni/DSUFall08%20Alumni%20Magazine-Revised%2010-1-08.pdf as January 7, 2008. I was lucky to be in first and second grade with Betty at Matty Akin Elementary and remember one day we had a field trip and had to bring something like 25 or 50 cents for it. One poor little girl was told she couldn't go if she didn't bring her money and she started crying cause her parents couldn't afford it. Betty stepped right up to comfort the little girl and somehow found the money for her. She taught me at an early age what true kindness was. The good really do die young.

That was Betty. THAT is what we should all remember. What a wonderful story of someone, who even at such an early age, felt and acted with such compassion. There are more stories about her like that and I want to know them all.

When I saw her senior class picture again, I cried like a baby. How does one get from there to here? Life's great mysteries confound me, and Betty was certainly one of them. I love her. I just do.

I knew Betty pretty well in junior high. Her boyfriend at the time was Bob Buchanon, who was a friend of mine. When Bob went to see Betty, I sometimes went along, so I got to spend some time with her that way. Everything that I have seen written about her here was true. A heart of gold and always put others first. Her physical beauty was unimportant to her and as pretty as she was, what was on the inside was even more beautiful. Rest in peace Betty.... we'll keep your memory alive.

A couple of memories about Betty (aside from her beauty and friendliness to all) that come to mind are Ambush cologne which she wore to school one day.  All of the sudden all the high school girls (including me) had to have Ambush cologne.  Another memory is of Betty wearing the football uniform at the pep rallies!  Good times.
