Malcolm "Mac" Payne

Funeral services for Malcolm "Mac" Luther Payne, Jr., 83, of Greenville will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.  He died Saturday, July 6, 2013 in Greenville.  Burial will be in Greenville Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.

He was born December 11, 1929 in Greenville to M. L. Payne and Leila Bridges Payne.  He lived in Greenville his entire life.  Mac was a manager of the Greenville High School Hornets football team during the fifties and early sixties.  His ability to name the Greenville Hornets schedule, what games they won, and the scores of all the games was amazing.  He is fondly remembered by  many former students of GHS.  He also could be seen riding his bike around Greenville and "helping out" at the "7-11" on Highway 82, at Strazi's and other businesses.  He never forgot a face or a name and always would speak to everyone.  He was a special person and touched the lives of many people.

He was affectionately known as "Sonny" by his family.  He is survived by 11 Payne first cousins and numerous Bridges first cousins, also caregivers for many years, Betty King, Tim and Tabitha Foster.
