George Fred Baum, 69, a high school math teacher and home builder of Sand Springs (OK), died 29 MAY 2012.
George was born 01 JUN 1942, in Coleman (TX), the son of Leo and Annie Canaday Baum. He was a member of the 1960 graduation class of Greenville High School.
After graduation from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 1960 to 1964. George later received his bachelor’s degree from ETSU in Commerce and was employed at the Bogota School System for one year before pursuing other interests.
He is survived by two daughters, Sharon McVay of Sand Springs (OK), and Kim Moore of Yucca Valley (CA), one son, James “Jim” L. Baum of Oklahoma City (OK); a sister, Annelle Harp of Greenville (TX); five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, one nephew; his first wife, Ann; a son, Mike; and wife Bonnie Baum in FEB 2012. George loved football, especially his Dallas Cowboys. He was an avid NFL watcher, but enjoyed watching OU and OSU play. Any time football was on, George would have every TV in the house tuned into the game.
George was a great conversationalist. The saying about Will Rogers, “He never met a man he didn’t like”, also applied to George. He never met a person who he couldn’t talk to. George had the inexplicable trait of being able to speak to everyone, on every level and make each one feel completely comfortable. However, he had distinct views on Politics and Religion and it was often best not to engage in these two topics for George would certainly give you his opinion on both of these subjects.
George loved his family and friends. He is deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held 1000-hrs, SAT, 30 JUN 2012 at the Cremation Society Chapel located at 2103 E. 3rd Street, Tulsa (OK). An informal reception will be held immediately following the service.
