James "Al" Allen Weatherall Obituary

James "Al" Allen Weatherall, 88, departed this life early Saturday, May 11, 2024, in Houston. He was born June 12, 1935, in Greenville, Texas, to Therman and Lorene Weatherall and was one of seven children. He graduated from Carver High School in 1953. He went on to attend Texas College on a baseball scholarship, becoming a member of Omega Psi Phi and earning his bachelors in arts. After graduating college, he joined the United States Air Force in 1957, serving his country honorably for four years. James returned to school after serving in the military and received his masters in education at Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Allens dedication to education led him to work as an educator for over 23 years in his hometown of Greenville, where he was a teacher, coach, assistant principal, and principal. He then moved to Baytown in 1987, becoming the Director of Pupil Personnel for Goose Creek ISD, serving the school district for 16 years. He was friendly, fair, and firm, traits parents of his students appreciated. In 1998, he became the Executive Director of Personnel until he retired in 2002, leaving a legacy of excellence and commitment. He remained a consultant for the school district well into retirement. Allen was highly respected and loved by his former students, who stayed in touch with him, as well as colleagues, mentees, and friends.

Allens dedication to service extended beyond his career in education. He was active in several civic organizations, serving as President of the Civil Service Commission, Emergency Management Board, American Red Cross, and NAACP. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club in Baytown, where he continued to serve his community through volunteer work. His commitment to faith was evident in his regular attendance at Lakewood Church in Houston with his wife, Cheryl. Allen was an avid golfer. He played in support of many charity tournaments locally as well as in and out of state. His love for sports also extended into football as a Dallas Cowboys superfan.

Allen was not just a dedicated professional and community member but also a loving family man. His love for his son, Patrick, and his step-children, Virgil, Nicholas, LeKeisha, and Talliesha, was boundless. He embraced them as his own, along with their mother and his wife, Cheryl. His adoration for his grandchildren was evident in the joy he found spending time with them.

Mr. Weatherall was preceded in death by his parents, Therman and Lorene Weatherall, and his siblings, Ola Weatherall Morris, Beverly Weatherall Mercadel, Dorothy Weatherall Heath, Arthur Weatherall, and Glendell Weatherall. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Ollivierre Weatherall; his sister, Joyce Ann Weatherall; his son, Patrick Weatherall; his step-children, Virgil Ollivierre, Nicholas Ollivierre, LeKeisha Ollivierre, and Talliesha Ollivierre; his grandchildren, Mekala Zapiecki, Vail Ollivierre, Kaison Ollivierre, Kynsley Ollivierre Wilmore, and Camille Ollivierre, as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.
