Eddie Pitman lived across the street from me up until I was in the Fourth Grade. In fact, his mom, brother, grandfather, and great-grandparents all lived across the street from me. We lived down behind the old Post Office (on King Street, north of Lee Street). We both went to Austin School.

I don't think Eddie and I ever went into each other's house (back then kids didn't do that), but we played outside everyday. We had a tire swing in my yard, lots of play areas under trees, and a whole neighborhood to explore. I even have home movies of us out in my front yard playing with a "Water Wiggle". Anyone else remember those??

He was a really nice kid that was lots of fun to have as a friend.

Unfortunately, we kind of lost touch through later elementary, junior high, and high school. The last time I saw Eddie was in college. We ran into each other at The Showdown in Commerce and we talked for a little while. It was good to see him and also to remember him now as the same old gentle spirit he was when we were best friends in the old neighborhood.
