
Kelly Farrell Beard, 52, of Pocola passed away Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, in Pocola. Kelly was born Nov. 12, 1961, in Fort Smith to Armon and Gaylene (Ketchum) Beard. He was a retired teacher/police officer. Kelly had bachelor’s degree in education from NSU, where he graduated magna cum laude. He taught one year in Hartford Public Schools and 10 years at Pocola Public Schools. He was a church league baseball coach in Fort Smith for 10-plus years, and he also spent 10-plus years as a law enforcement officer in LeFlore and Haskell counties. He was preceded in death by his mother; niece, Kendra (Beard) Bailey; and his father-in-law, Tod Oliver.
Survivors include his wife, Mickie of the home; mother-in-law, Audrey Oliver of Pocola; sons, Clay and Janet Barnes of Smithville, Okla., and Aron Barnes of Pocola; grandchildren, Cheyenne and Kayeton Barnes; brothers, Greg and Brenda Beard of Ozark, Terry Beard of Bossier City, La., Randy and Lisa Beard of Dyer; sister, Kitty Beard of Dyer; nieces, Christie Childers, Jenna Beard, Briana Beard and Shannon Ray; nephews, Jeff Beard, Chris Beard, Brett Beard and Chris Henretty.
Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Evans & Miller Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Pocola with the Rev. Carl Cheshier and Phil Cheshier officiating. Interment will follow at Macedonia Cemetery in Pocola.
Pallbearers will be Greg Graham, Brian Hale, Jeremy French, David Hughart, Trey Jackson, Rick Robinson, Dane Burgess and Brian Patton.
Honorary pallbearers will be Greg Beard, Terry Beard, Randy Beard, Keith Patton, Roger Lairamore and Mark McKenzie
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kendra Voice Inc. at Bank of the Ozarks, account No. 2004010167.
The family will be at the funeral home today from 5-7 p.m. to visit with relatives and friends.
