Thessalonians 4:14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him. Patricia Ann Whitten Hodges, of Madison, dearest mother, grandmother, and sister passed away on Monday, January 2, 2017 after a long and valiant battle with cancer. She passed peacefully in her home, surrounded by her sons, her sister, and her devoted friend and caretaker, Beth Cooper. Patricia was born in Avalon, Mississippi to Mable Frazier Whitten and Marshall Burns Whitten. As a child, she attended Leflore Baptist Church in Leflore, MS and later Calvary Baptist Church in Greenwood, MS. She was a graduate of Greenwood High School, class of 1968. She attended the University of Southern Mississippi where she graduated in 1972 with an Accounting Degree. From 1972 until 1981, she utilized her accounting skills to assist her husband manage Ingleside plantation and later Westfield plantation, all while rearing a family. In 1981, she accepted a position in the Accounting Department of Staplcotn and her professional career began. She transferred into the Traffic Department as an Export Specialist where she quickly advanced, over her 22-year career, to the position of Vice President of Sales Operations. After this professional accomplishment, she retired from Staplcotn and continued for the next five years to consult in the commodities industry. But for all of that, Patricia was most proud of her two sons, Justin R. Hodges and Channing Whitten Hodges. Patricia was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by three sisters; Marsha W. Temple of Jackson, Linda W. Pace of Flowood, and Nancy W. New of Ridgeland. Also surviving are her two sons and their wives; Justin and Sally Hodges of Madison and Channing and Michelle Hodges of Greenwood. Her five wonderful grandchildren; Emma Josephine, William Henry, Hannah Grace, Hyatt Brannan, and Channing Whitten, II each added an immense amount of joy and merriment to her life. Visitation will be held at Parkway Funeral Home, 1161 Highland Colony Parkway from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM Thursday January 5, 2017, with services to immediately follow. Family and friends are cordially invited to celebrate her life at the Martinique Club House at Lake Caroline following the service. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Hodges requested that contributions be made to St. Jude Hospital, Memphis Tenn.
