I would like to say a few things about Gary for those classmates who knew him, and those who didn’t, to let you know the person he turned out to be and the imprint he left behind.

In high school Gary was restless and fun loving, as most of us were. He had a fondness for working on his car, riding his motorcycle and listening to George Thorogood or Stevie Ray Vaughn at full volume. He made friends easily, classmates and teachers alike, with his engaging demeanor and ever-present humor and wit -- Mr. Teetaert being the exception. He would chase Gary down the halls on numerous occasions for “possession of cigarettes”. I suppose he regarded this a taunting, as Gary would carry his cigarette pack in plain view in his front shirt pocket. When skipping school - no problem - Gary would captivate the attendance ladies who would willingly hand over an excused note. No fail.

After graduation, Gary quickly excelled in the printing industry and soon became a leader in his field. His vision and intuition kept him steps ahead in the trade and he was written up in Crain’s Detroit as “Entrepreneur of the Year” at a young age.

He had a zest for life and a passion for boating, golfing, traveling, and anything social. A people person through and through, he enjoyed talking to anyone about anything. He would light up a room the moment he walked in and loved to make people laugh.

He was an honorable man. Loving and compassionate, he never stopped giving - especially when it came to his two daughters. His greatest love was his family and his daughters were the light of his life. He was involved in every aspect and reveled in the girl talk. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2003 and his greatest desire was to be given the chance to see his girls on their way to a good start in life. He died one month after our youngest daughter’s graduation from GPN.

He is deeply missed.

Krista,

Gary and I were good friends in high school and I worked at Norhtwestern Printing for Gary's dad (Tom) in my senior year as part of the coop program. Many fond memories of Gary, Mr. Driscoll and I traveling to Canada on their boat. I am sure Gary became a great father, husband and businesman. Incidently, I still have the 1973 booklet from the Grosse Pointe Cooperative Education Banquet dated May 9, 1973. The booklet was printed by Northwestern Printing.

God Bless!
