  • Angel Tree:  The pandemic kept our club from having meetings in January, February and March of 2021.  BUT, members sent in their dues anyway AND generously donated to our Angel Tree project of giving $25 gift cards to the Foster Children of Baldwin County.  We were able to deliver 57 cards to Gia Coleman, Director of Baldwin County Dept. of Human Resources.  She said, "You don't know how much this helps!"   We heard that there are 202 kids in the program this year.
  • Officers & Board Members by a unanimously voted approving to extend the $675.00 LOAN and LOANING an addition $150.00 for this years rent of the storage room for the equipment of the LCB if there is no LCB. So far, four states have agreed to LOAN money for this coming years rent total $600.00.

Judi has been working with the Gulf Shores Community Theater, and has sign up club members for the Trivia Night. Judi will assume the role the Mike had of arranging for lunches once we go back to having meetings. I would like to thank Mike for his time serving on the board. This club can only run and be successful with these members that volunteer. THANKS MIKE !

Nominating and Election Chairperson, Tom Donovan who has business world experience with elections said that we can postpone club election until next year 2023. Snobirds

I hope that everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving.

  • Angel Tree: As previously announced, the Wisconsin Sno-Birds Club had raised donations of $2850 for the Angel Tree program.  This money was raised in conjunction with the membership registration for the year of 2021.  It was recently decided that functions of the Wisconsin Sno-Birds Club have been cancelled and that all 2022 dues registrations received were being transferred to the 2023 physical year.  This would have left with the club with no funds to donate to Angel Tree in year 2022.  To address this situation, it was decided to split the $2850 previously raised for 2021 into two parts and send Angel Tree $1425 in December 2021 and the remaining $1425 in December 2022.   This will mitigate the impact on the Angel Tree budgeting process while, at the same time, demonstrate the continuing support of the Wisconsin Sno-Birds Club for the Angel Tree organization. I apologize for the misspelling of the word ANGEL in my last email.
  • TOILETRIES: We are planning on having a Saturday morning for drop off of the toiletries that you have collected from motels. The date has not been set, I will communicate it as soon as it been set.
  • Just a reminder; All Wisconsin Snobirds Club events have been canceled for the 2022 Snowbirds Season. There is an exception to this, we will be golfing and have the Fun Days at Glen Lakes.
  • Rental:  Here is a rental for you if you are still looking for a place to stay this winter. Cindy Grice <cynthiadgrice@gmail.com> HI my brother has a condo at Lei Lani Villas 202 in Orange Beach. 2 bedroom 2 bath it has a indoor pool and access to the beach and Ole River. He rents for 1500 total a month with a cleaning fee of 175.00 after the end of the stay.

Snobirds:

It is with sadness but my approval that the officer and board members have decided to CANCEL the entire 2022 Snowbird Season. This decision was made with input from many sources and the fact that I don't want to put anyone in harms way. So far several other Snowbird Clubs have canceled their season or have cut back on their activities.  That said, there are a few things that you need to know:

1.a. If you pre-registrated and paid your membership fee for this year it will be rolled over to next year's 2023 season.
1.b. Remember, you can include your donation to Angle Tree with your membership fee or you can write a donation check and mail it to Membership Chairperson Tom Chestnut.

2. Golf and the two Golf Fun Days, January 31 and February 21 will happen. Since golf is a outdoor sport it was decided to go ahead with the Golf and the Fun Days. Some details need to be worked out, like how to register, how to do the lunch and how to distribute the door prizes.

3. The Club Pot Luck, Club Picnic, Zoo Fun Day, the March and April breakfast and Easter Dinner are all canceled.

4. Weekly Cards is also canceled because Chuck Wilfer will be having two eye surgeries in January and will not be down this winter.

5. NOT canceled are the five fund raisers which are not run by the Wisconsin Snobird Club but are run by committees and other organizations. The Brat Fest, Low Country Boil, Trivia Night, 8 Pin Tap Bowling for Christian Service, Baldwin County Heritage Museum Golf Scramble. There will be more information on these when it becomes available.

I and the other officers and board members hope that you understand.

Sept 7, 2021

Snobirds:

The Board of the Wisconsin Snobird club has voted to cancel all club actives for the months of October, November and December. This includes all breakfast, lunches Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinner.

We have taken this action because of the high number of cases of the Covid Virus along the Gulf Coast. The summer visitor to the Gulf Coast have not been very careful and have spread the virus. Hopes are that by our first meeting in January things will be a lot better and we will be able to have a normal Snowbird Season.

We will of course reevaluate the conditions in mid December. We feel that the safety of our members is important. We don't want to be the cause of people getting sick or worse.

If you have or are planning to download the registration and survey forms and mail them to Tom, PLEASE let Tom know before the 20th of September. You DON'T have to mail in the forms and money until a decision is made mid December on the Snowbird Season.

These are difficult times and we are trying to do what is best for all members.

Thank You

  • A draft of this season's calendar is located at the top of the home page. It is not complete but there are two (2) major changes that I wanted to make you all aware of. We will have the second meetings of January and February on TUESDAYS!  This is because the Orange Beach Event Center OBEC has been booked for the normal third Wednesdays of January and February. These are multi day events and they pay a full fee to rent the building. We pay only one half the normal fee. calendar:  MAJOR CHANGES TO MEETINGS:  The 2nd meetings of Jan. and Feb. are on TUESDAYS at OBEC
  • (from Darcy & Jeff Rittich aka Casino Connection): Hi and hope this finds everyone well. We have sadly decided to no longer do any bus trips. There are just too many variables that make traveling in a bus unsafe in this pandemic atmosphere. We are sad that it has come to this but we must put health as our top priority. Wish we had better news for you and the club. Thanks for all you have done in the past. Stay healthy! - Jeff and Darcy
  • Trivia Night:  Again this year Our Wisconsin Club will be donating a Basket or Baskets of Item from Wisconsin to be raffled off at the Trivia Night. • Speaking of Baskets, if you have newer in good shape large baskets that you would like to donate please contact me.

We still need someone to fill two chairperson positions.  We have 843 members, surely there is a couple that can take over the Chairpersons' duties of these two committees.

Singles Lunches Chairperson: This Person needs to set up three lunches. One for each month of January, February and March. All lunches may be at the same restaurant or you can pick three different restaurants.

Golf Committee: (needed for 2023): Our current Committee will be retiring after the 2022 year. When you take this position you will be able to work with the current committee in 2022. That is setting up the two Golf Fun Days. One in January and the second in February.

  • Well, it is getting to be about that time of the year, in about five weeks you should be receiving your Pre-Registration Packet. Tom Chestnut, our Membership Chairperson ask that if in the last two years you changed your mailing address or if you gave a street address on your registration form but get your mail at a Post Office Box that you send the correct information to Tom NOW so that the PACKET gets to you. We mail the Pre-Registration out third class mail to save money, however if the address is wrong or it a street address instead PO BOX number the mail is NOT forwarded. IF YOU HAVE TO CHANGE YOUR ADDRESS OR GIVE A POST OFFICE BOX NUMBER, PLEASE E-MAIL IT TO TOM AT: tac.smc.14@gmail.com Changes are coming to the Wisconsin Snobird Club Pre-Registration Packets. There will be more on this in a few weeks. It is very exciting that these changes will help the club and also make registering a easier event. A Big Thank You to

  • Bob King. Bob has agreed to become the Treasurer of the Brat Fest.
  • Cindy Spangler. Cindy will work with someone that takes the Trivia Night Basket wrapping.
  • Diane Singleton. Diane has accepted the Picnic Chairperson position.
  • Carol Van Der Burgt past picnic chairperson who has offered to work with Diane.
  • Judi Pugh for accepting one of the positions on the Scholarship Committee

YOUR CLUB STILL NEEDS YOUR HELP. It is time for you to step up and help your club and me by agreeing to become a Chairperson or a member of one of the committees. All positions have someone that will help you with the whatever you need. I also can and will get what ever you need. We also need one officer.  The Chairpersons and Committee members STILL needed are:

  • Singles Lunches Chairperson: This Person needs to set up three lunches. One for each month of January, February and March. All lunches may be at the same restaurant or you can pick three different restaurants.
  • Golf Committee: (needed for 2023): Our current Committee will be retiring after the 2022 year. When you take this position you will be able to work with the current committee in 2022. That is setting up the two Golf Fun Days. One in January and the second in February.
  • Person to do the Trivia night Baskets: Wisconsin Snobird Club Members donate items from their area of our state of Wisconsin. These items are collected at our January meetings and placed in a basket and wrapped to be auctioned off at the Trivia Night.
  • A chairperson is also needed for the scholarship awarding. Glen & Letha Seering told me they would be retiring from that position after the awarding of the scholarship in 2022. I think that this is a great opportunity for a retired educator. In this position you will need to set up a interviewing session with the students applying for our scholarship. The school counselor is happy to set up these interviewing sessions. Excepting this job now will give you a year to work with the current chairpersons.
  • Also needed for the Scholarship Committee are two members. These members are to replace Mike O'Rourke and Gene Lesinski. You will  need to attend one  meeting with the students that apply for our scholarship and have a very interesting Q&A with each of them. This is also a  good chance for a retired educator or anyone that would like to work with High School Students.
  • The officer is: Vice President: I can appoint a person that would like to be the vice president of the Wisconsin Snobird Club. This is of course is to replace current  vice president Mike O'Rourke. The vice president does not move up to the presidency. Duties are to take the place of the president should he/she not be able to attend a club function. The vice president also arranges the guest speakers for our meetings. This is not a difficult part of the job. There are always people that just want to attend our meetings and talk about their things.

Now please don't be shy. E-mail me or call me about the position you are interested in. I can give you more information, answer any questions you may have and also put you in connection with the current chairperson.

Thanks

Your Wisconsin Snobird Club needs your help. New to the club or just haven't met a lot of new friends here is your opportunity to do that and help out the club. There are five openings for committee chairpersons and one officer position. All positions are easy and you will have the previous chairperson to help you with the transition. Please don't look to another of your fellow members to help out the club. Please speak up now. The Chairpersons needed are:

  • Picnic Co-Chairperson: This person or persons will work with a previous co-chairperson to organize the Wisconsin Snobird Club Picnic. Most things are in place for our annual picnic. We just need to have someone to oversee the picnic with the current co-chairperson.
  • Brat Fest Treasurer: This position the person needs to attend two of the three Brat Fest meetings in January and February, write checks, prepare the cash draws the day of  the brat fest, count the money after the brat fest and deposit the money in the bank.                       Everything is in place for someone to take over as treasurer. Paul and I spent some time at the bank making sure that everything was up to date and that a new treasurer will be able to take right over.
  • Person to do the Trivia night Baskets: Wisconsin Snobird Club Members donate items from their area of our state of Wisconsin. These items are collected at our January meetings and placed in a basket and wrapped to be auctioned off at the Trivia Night.
A Big Thank You to Fred

Snobirds:

  • I have been asked to share this with you. It is from Public Engagement Coordinator, Alabama Coastal Foundation. This is only a FYI if you are interested.

Good morning Wisconsin Snobird Club, My name is Aubrey Bianco and I am the Alabama Coastal Foundation’s new Public Engagement Coordinator. We appreciate you and all of the members of Wisconsin Snobird Club who appreciate all that coastal Alabama has to offer! I am reaching out to ask for your help spreading the word about some items of interest to all Wisconsin Snobirds, whether they are visiting now or plan to in the future.

Please feel free to use/edit the following:

The Alabama Coastal Foundation is a non-partisan, nonprofit organization that improves and protects Alabama’s coastal environment. Aubrey Bianco, ACF’s new Public Engagement Coordinator, asked that I share these updates that are of interest to Wisconsin Snobirds no matter where you are:

Coastal IQ Program: ACF would like all Wisconsin Snobirds to know about our newest program called Coastal IQ. While originally planned as an in-person activity that adults could do in restaurants and bars, we retooled it to give people anywhere a fun diversion from your computer, tablet, or phone. Expand your coastal knowledge on many topics--ranging from bays, turtles, and weather--that come with hints to help everyone learn! Please click the following link to learn more and sign up: https://www.joinACF.org/coastal-iq

Share the Beach Flashlights: Last fall, ACF created an alternative to “regular” flashlights which are disruptive to sea turtles and are nuisance to people as well. Our Share the Beach flashlight is a high-quality product made in the USA, durable (drop/water resistant), and has our logo so you know it is sea turtle friendly! The link to the flashlight is on our home page (www.joinACF.org) and we wanted to let everyone know that you can receive a 20% discount if you use ACF20 when you check out. In addition, we are offering membership incentives for the next three Fridays where people can join ACF as an individual ($40) member to receive a free Share the Beach flashlight or get two complimentary flashlights with a family membership ($100)!

Sign up for our free updates: We have other learning opportunities and information to share throughout the year, so please take a moment to sign up for ACF’s free updates: https://www.joinACF.org/subscribe (Just so you know, ACF does not sell or give away any of our contact information.)

Thank you for your time and for enjoying our coastal environment. If anyone has any questions, please ask them to send an email to my address below.

Best, Aubrey

  • PARADES CANCELED Due to public safety concerns, the City of Orange Beach has canceled its annual Fat Tuesday parade on February 16th, and the Mystics and Marshals’ night parades on Saturday, February 13th. In line with the city, The Wharf has also canceled its annual parade on Monday, February 15th. Mayor Tony Kennon and the City Council had hoped that parades would be able to roll in 2021 but after discussions with police, fire and our local Mardi Gras krewes, it was determined there was no way to safely hold our usual family-friendly parades. The city looks forward to letting the good times roll in 2022.
  • BOOK SALE CANCELED: The Friends of the Orange Beach Public Library have canceled the Annual Book and Bake Sale fundraiser due to COVID-19 safety concerns.
