WOOD, James Michael, 70, passed away Sept. 12, 2015. Born Oct. 8, 1944, in Stafford Springs, CT, he moved to St. Petersburg as a young child. In 1963, he graduated from Boca Ciega High School, where he played baseball. He earned an Associate's Degree from St. Petersburg Junior College in 1969. A loving husband and father, Jim enjoyed serving others through his church and work. Jim worked at Edward White Hospital, where he was recognized for over fifteen years of service. A lifelong learner, Jim returned to earn his degree part-time at the University of South Florida and graduated in 1993, with a Bachelor's degree in English Literature. Later in his career, Jim worked with special needs children for Pinellas County Schools. He loved walking, fishing, books, music, serving others, his church, and above all else, his family. He is survived by his wife, Julie; son, Justin and daughter-in-law, Kelly of Raleigh, NC; and granddaughter, Cannady. A memorial service will be held at the Riviera United Methodist Church of St. Petersburg, Tuesday, Sept. 15, 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim's honor to the Alzheimer's Association. E. Dale Gunter Funeral Home
