Information about Heidi Montgomery Barron
Posted Thursday, May 12, 2011 08:47 AM

Please keep Heidi in your prayers as she recovers from a serious wreck.

She was t-boned Tuesday night in Bear Creek.  She was airlifted to UAB.  She had a ruptured diaphragm (which she's already had surgery for), broken ribs, and broken pelvis.  From what I understand, she's supposed to have more surgery today.  She was on a ventilator as of last night because of her diaphragm.

I'll keep you updated with any information that I come across.  If you have information, please feel free to share!

Heidi was supposed to have surgery yesterday, but it was postponed until today...  Keep her in your prayers today.

While she is expected to recover, Heidi's injuries are serious.  She will have a LONG and TOUGH road to recovery.

I'm hoping to receive some news soon after she's out of surgery.  I'll post here when I do...

From Tina Boshell Wilson on facebook last night:

"Got some good news today...Heidi's nurse said that she was on the lowest setting today for the vent, and there is a good chance she will be off the vent tomorrow!!! Once that is out, things can really start getting better, she can talk to us, can start rehab for the pelvis, can just be communicative! I plan on going over tomorrow nite, and I cannot wait to hear her voice!!!!!!!!!!! Please pray for that!!!!!"

"I know that eventually Heidi will be reading this, so I won't reveal any deep, dark secrets, haha.  I have to laugh sometimes because otherwise I would be crying alot.  I saw Heidi last nite for the 8 pm visit, she wants the vent out so badly, and the nurse untied her hand to move something, and her hand immediately went for that tube down her throat.  We had to grab her and reassure her that it has to be there right now.

I did find out that she initiates every breath, that the vent only helps out at the end to get all the air out, since she can't completely clear lungs due to broken ribs.  I was glad to hear that!  She moved around alot last nite, trying to get comfortable.  I rubbed her feet a bit, and helped her move her legs to get in different positions.  I can only imagine how sore she is after laying flat of her back for the last week.  Today she is having a small procedure done to deal with the spleen, and I am PRAYING that the Lord allows that vent to come out afterward.  I hope she does well.  I am very torn, I would be there ALL DAY LONG if I could, especially on my days off, but I have 2 kids not in school, and that ICU is no place for them.  My sister in law Amy went last nite, and it is an eye-opener being with these people in the waiting room, whose loved ones are badly sick or injured.  There are still patients there from the tornado.  There are people who have lost limbs, brain function, etc.  And we share our stories out in the waiting room.  I saw a new family come in last nite, and I wanted to tell them "I know how you feel!"  They had looks on their faces of panic, fear, grief....at least I know Heidi will eventually be alrite.

I will post more later, gotta go make some icing for a cake for preschool teacher appreciation today, and I have a crying one year old that wants his Mommy.  Thanks to Ashley Goodwin Pearson for going to visit Heidi yesterday, and thanks for all the prayers.  Class of 1989, we are a special group, and I am proud to be a part of it.  Lift Heidi (and all of us who struggle) up today!  Post more soon..."

Tina (Boshell) Wilson's facebook update late Wednesday night:

I just got home from the best visit with Heidi!!!!  She had a big old smile on her face when I got there, and we just smiled at each other and cried, and laughed, yes, laughed!  She is doing better than I expected.  Her throat is sore, she's coughing quite a bit, and has oxygen on, but she is so happy to have that vent out.  She is finally able to talk to us, and we had good conversation.  She has some wild tales to tell while on all those meds, but we just laughed about those too.  She has a long way to go, but we are thankful that she is not paralyzed, or that she has no brain damage.  She is alive and can move and can talk and think, and I am just grateful for that right now.

I just wanted to share how good she seemed tonite.  I read a card that Jenny Haughton sent (got it yesterday), thanks, Jenny, and read some verses.  We mainly talked about her injuries and the accident, and her girls and how glad they are she is ok.  Thanks for all the prayers, she still needs them!!  I let her know a little tonite of what she has to face in the way of physical therapy and mobility, and it's gonna be tough.  But she looked at me and said "I am tough, I can do this!"  And she is right!!

Wonderful news!  Thanks for all the prayers...  keep them coming!
