Mark often has blackout episodes. While diving in the deep end of the Hamburg pool with several of his friends he suffered one such episode and died.
That particular day the water was very cloudy and it was towards the end of the day. Most of the people had left for the day and there was a lifeguard across from the deep end but not at the deep end. As a few of us were running and diving, we forgot to look out for each other and never realized Mark was not around.

Mark was one of my best friends who I had known since probably 2nd or 3rd grade. Always enjoyed his company and we sat together on the bus(bus #17) when we were in 7th grade. The last thing I said to him was "Have A Nice Summer" and he replied "You, Too". I was devastated when I heard about his death. To lose your life at only 12 or 13 years old is inexcusable!! I still miss you, buddy!Brad Weitzel
Mark was a very good friend that has been deeply missed. I remember that day so clear. Will always miss Mark writing the mystery stories and reading them during lunch. Mark was a good man and his memories will always be cherished mostly by those who got the opportunity to really know mark and enjoy his company. We miss you Mark, take care we know you are watching over your classmates.Steve Dietrich
I remember Mark from early elementary school. I also remember the blackouts and some meaner students inducing them by flicking on and off the lights. Children can be mean. He lived down the street from me. He was always a very nice person. I remember the day he was found at the pool. I was saddened and shocked. I felt terrible. He has come to mind often over the years. I hope he is at peace.
