Ellen Marie Stillitano, of Ewing, NJ, passed peacefully into eternal life in Frederick, MD on December 19, 2024 at the age of 69 with her husband and sons by her side after a heartbreaking battle with dementia.
Born on April 15, 1955 in Trenton, NJ, Ellen was the daughter of the late Alexander & Magdalen Virok. Ellen was a 1973 graduate of St. Anthony’s High School and a 1977 graduate of Trenton State College (College of New Jersey). She went on to earn her master’s degree in education while beginning her career as an elementary school teacher at PJ Hill Elementary School (Trenton, NJ).
At home, Ellen was a loving wife to Mark for 44 years. Her pride and joy was raising two strong sons, Matthew and Christopher. She always enjoyed having a houseful of family and friends where all knew they were welcome. She was a dedicated sister, aunt, and godmother. In her later years, her greatest joy was becoming a Grandmother to Benjamin, Claire & Grace.
Ellen loved teaching, and she dedicated 35 years to the PJ Hill Elementary School community. Over the years she impacted the lives of countless elementary school students. The Stillitano’s were members at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church (Ewing, NJ) and Ellen enjoyed volunteering her time there. She taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) classes every Sunday after Mass to the youth (including her two sons).
Ellen is predeceased by her parents, Alex and Magdalen Virok; her mother and father-in-law, Vincent and Marie Stillitano; and her sister-in-law, Jeanne Shipos. Ellen is survived by her husband, Mark Stillitano; her sons and daughters-in-law, Matthew and Leslie Stillitano, Christopher and Emma Stillitano; her grandchildren, Benjamin, Claire and Grace Stillitano; her siblings and their spouses, Alex and Rosie Virok, Kathy and John Siracusa, Kris Johnson, Marianne and Patrick Kent, Janet and Dan Martenak; her brother-in-law Mike Shipos; and 16 nieces and nephews.
The visitation for Ellen will be held on Monday, December 30, 2024 at 11:00am at Holy Family Catholic Church – 7321 Burkittsville Rd, Middletown, MD 21769. Immediately following, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00pm. Interment will be held at Christ Reformed Cemetery, Middletown, MD following the Mass.
The family would like to thank the outstanding and compassionate staff at Village Crossing Memory Loss Center for their unwavering support and care of Ellen during her last years of life. The family is forever grateful to them.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Ellen Stillitano Memorial Scholarship Fund that will annually benefit the higher education of students who attended PJ Hill Elementary School where Ellen served for 35 years.
