Frank Bernhardt

TREASURE ISLAND, Fla. - Francis J. "Frank" Bernhardt, 36, of Treasure Island, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, at his home.
Born in Trenton, N.J., Mr. Bernhardt was a lifelong Trenton, N.J. resident before moving to Treasure Island in 2010. Frank was a heart transplant recipient in 2007 from Hahneman University Hospital, Philadelphia. He was a class of 1992 graduate from Steinert High School and a member of their swimming team. He loved music, especially playing his guitar and drums. After settling in Florida, Frank made many new friends and he enjoyed the Florida "charm" as well as his karaoke.
He was the maternal grandson of the late Stanley and Lois Karczewski, and paternal grandson of the late Frank W. and Helen Bernhardt. He is survived by his son, Joseph W. Bernhardt of Alexandria, Va.; his father, William J. and wife Sylvia Bernhardt of Hamilton Township, N.J.; his mother, Sandra and husband James Hope of Anthony; his sister, Dawn Bernhardt of Westville, N.J.; four brothers, William F. and Lori Bernhardt of Williamstown, N.J., Michael W. Bernhardt of Hamilton Township, N.J., Bryan A. Oros of Bellevue and Matthew J. Hope of San Jose, Calif.; his stepsister, Michele Williams of Levittown, Pa.; as well as several aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends; three special cousins, the late Stanley P. Vaneekhoven, Jamie Toleno of Burlington Township, N.J. and Robert Lasky of Hamilton Township, N.J.; and special friend, Diane Ryel of Columbus, N.J.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday from the Winowicz Funeral Home, Adeline and Beatty streets, Trenton, N.J. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Divine Mercy Parish, Church of the Holy Cross with the Rev. Fr. Edward Kwoka presiding. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton Township, N.J. Calling hours will be from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial donations in Frank's memory may be made to the Hahneman University Hospital Heart Transplant Team, 230 North Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19102.
