In Memory

Sandy Horbatiuk - Class Of 1972

HORBATIUK, Sandy Cancer has defeated his body, but never his spirit. Sandy passed peacefully, with his wife and son at his side, on October 26, 2012, at the young age of 59. This kind and beautiful man will be deeply missed and forever loved by his wife Karen Dawson, and son Taylor Dawson. Loving and dutiful son to Wanda Horbatiuk. Sandy is survived by his children, Jennifer and Stephen Horbatiuk. Much loved son-in-law of Janet Rudyk. Left to cherish his memory are his brothers-in-law and their wives, Peter and Rhona Rudyk, and John and Elisabeth Rudyk, and cousin Sharon and Robert Smith. Will be lovingly remembered by several members of the Rudyk family, especially Sonia and Sidney Halyk, and Mary Kastick. Best and lifelong friend of John Evans. Sandy was predeceased by his father Dmitri, sister Irene Karjama, and father-in-law Raymond Rudyk. Sandy was a proud employee of Arcelor Mittal Hamilton East (formerly Stelwire) and a member of USW local 5328. Always an optimist, Sandy remained hopeful and positive throughout this vicious disease. A special thank you to his entire team of oncologists at the Juravinski Cancer Centre and Hospital, the nurses and technicians of both the Chemo and Radiation Clinics, CCAC of Hamilton for all of their support, including the kind PSW's of Bayshore, and St. Joseph's Home Care, especially nurses Lana Petrovic, and Janet Fernandez. Finally, to the caring staff of St. Peter's Hospital, who treated Sandy with dignity and kept him comfortable in his final three days, a huge debt of gratitude. Cremation has taken place. In accordance with his wishes, a celebration of Sandy's life will be held at Michelangelo's Banquet Centre, 1555 Upper Ottawa St., Hamilton, on Thursday, November 8, 2012, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. (eulogies to be delivered at 6 p.m). If so desired, expressions of sympathy in Sandy's memory to the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice would be appreciated.
